The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is the winner of the »AIA Honor Awards«. The price of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) counts as the highest recognition to architecture in the USA and counts worldwide to the most significant honourings in this area. The »AIA Honor Awards« will be award for prominent architectural achievements in the areas of interior architecture and urban design.
The presentation of the awards takes place on the »AIA 2007 Nationwide Convention and Design Exposition« in San Antonio. The institute decided among 700 participants on the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. With the presentation in May a total of 29 winners will be awarded
Hanns Peter Nerger, head of the Berlin Tourismus Marketing Ltd., and Uwe Neumärker, Executive Director of the Memorial Foundation, agree: This acknowledgement confirms the hugh international recognition of the Memorial and will further strengthen the stream of visitors.
The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe receives with the »2007 Honor AIA Award« already its 4-th honouring. In September 2006 the Memorial was among five nominations of the »Urbane Landscape Award« of the EuroHypo-Bank Frankfurt/Main. Short time later, in November 2006, it counted to seven prizewinners of the »Architekturpreis Berlin« and was awarded, likewise still in November, with the second place in »Globe Award for Best Worldwide Tourism Project« of »British Guild of Travel Writers«. Already in February 2006 Peter Eisenman’s Field of Stelae received the famous honouring of the US Magazine »Travel and Leisure« in the sector »Best Cultural Space« in New York.
