After 16 months in his post, Dr. Hans-Erhard Haverkampf is leaving the Foundation for the Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe. He was appointed Executive Director by the Board of Trustees of the Foundation in February 2004. His principal task has been to ensure the completion according to schedule of the Memorial and the implementation of the Information Centre by May 2005 and within the allotted budget. Another of his duties was to organise the first few months of operation of the Memorial. At the 24th session of the Board of Trustees on 30 June 2005, the chair of the Foundation, Bundestag President Wolfgang Thierse, expressed to Dr. Haverkampf his heartfelt gratitude and appreciation of the excellent job he had done. In his words, Dr. Haverkampf had »without a doubt been successful to the fullest extent« in accomplishing his tasks.
At the recommendation of the Executive Board, the Board of Trustees then appointed, by a large majority vote, Mr. Uwe Neumärker to the post of Executive Director for the next two years. Mr. Neumärker, born in 1970 in Berlin-Centre, has been a research associate in the office of the Foundation since March 2002. Among his tasks were the development and realisation of the exhibition in the Information Centre, especially the »Room of the Places«. He was also active as the press officer of the Foundation, and has been responsible for all public relations work. Mr. Neumärker has served as the deputy of Dr. Haverkampf for several months.
