From 7 to 9 November 2022, Uwe Neumärker, Adam Kerpel-Fronius and Dr. Ulrich Baumann were guests at the George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies (GCMC) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to work together with Paul Shapiro and Jennifer Ciardelli of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) to offer a new course on the lessons of the Holocaust that could be helpful and relevant to professionals working in the security policy field.
The german-American Study Center GCMC trains diplomats and military personnel from all over the world. The new teaching module, which focuses primarily on bureaucratic procedures such as the Wannsee Conference and the international dimension of the Holocaust, was one of the first projects of the new German-American Holocaust Dialogue, which was launched in the summer of 2021 by the foreign ministers of both countries to develop common positions in the fight against Holocaust denial and anti-Semitism and for the promotion of Holocaust remembrance. As a prelude to the course, the USHMM-created exhibition »Some Were Neighbors« opened in the main building of the GCMC on Monday, November 7.
