Experiences and projects in Germany
On 28June, 2022, at 7 p.m. , the online discussion “Exhibited Poland” took place in the series » Impulses: Conversations on the german-Polish Culture of Remembrance«.
Poland still plays far too little of a role in the historical imaginations of German society. This is also reflected in the historical exhibitions of the Federal Republic of Germany. How can the history of german-Polish relations be better integrated into German museums? What does a contemporary historical exhibition look like? And how will Berlin’s commemorative institutions develop if both a »Documentation Centre second World War and German occupation rule in Europe« and a »place of remembrance and encounter with Poland« are created?
DPI Director Peter Oliver Loew discussed this with two proven experts: Adam Kerpel-Fronius , a research associate at the Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin. It looks after numerous memorial sites with associated historical exhibitions. And Dr. Thorsten Smidt isexhibition director of the Foundation House of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bonn who is currently working on the new permanent exhibition. He has a special love for Poland.
