On 27 May, President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron – together with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender – visited the Holocaust Memorial as part of their visit to Germany.
The two presidents were received by Uwe Neumärker and led into the field of stelae. There they laid wreaths and commemorated the murdered Jews of Europe. Afterwards, Uwe Neumärker led the state guests into the Field of Stelae and gave an introduction to the memorial. The group was accompanied by Beate and Serge Klarsfeld. Part of the French President’s larger delegation included the French Ambassador Francois Delattre and several French ministers and MPs. After the field of stelae, a detailed tour of the information center followed. In particular, President Macron and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier spent a long time in the room of dimensions and in the room of families. Afterwards, the OFAJ/ FGYO – German-French Youth Office presented a newly developed app in the memorial portal. Finally, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Emmanuel Macron signed the memorial’s guest book.
