A major interest by the media is anticipated. Therefore we would like to provide you with some information on media coverage of the opening. The Press Office of the German Parliament (Bundestag) is supporting the Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe (Stiftung Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas) in making arrangements for media representatives and assists them with their accreditation.

Information on the Exhibition in the Information Centre – in German language only
Time: Friday, 6 May 2005, 10:00 a.m.

The Information Centre is situated below the Field of Stelae. The permanent exhibition there shows the fate of the victims and provides information on historical sites of the persecution and genocide of the Jews under Nazi rule in Europe.
Press briefing: The concept of the exhibition and its contents will be explained by historians, the museum educator and the exhibition designer. There is no possibility to film or take photos. The staff of the Foundation will be available after the press briefing for further questions and explanations also in English. Press kits in English and pictorial material will be handed out. Blocked until 9 May 4 p.m.

The press conference will take place with Bundestag President Wolfgang Thierse, Chairman of the Memorial Foundation, and the architect Peter Eisenman.
Memorial Concert on the Occasion of the Official Opening of the Memorial

Opening Ceremony of the Memorial 10 May 2005
Time: Tuesday, 10 May 2005, 2 p.m.
Place: Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe
Access via Ebertstraße/Hannah-Arendt-Straße
Among others, Bundestag President Thierse and architect Peter Eisenman will speak at the opening ceremony. This ceremony with musical interludes will take approximately 90 minutes. It will close with the Kaddish prayer, and will take place in a tent at the edge of the Field of Stelae (Hannah-Arendt-Straße, corner of Cora-Berliner-Straße).

IMPORTANT: All representatives of the media are required to have special accreditation and a valid photo I.D. to enter the Memorial. Accreditation is handled by the Press Office of the German Bundestag (see details on registration below).
Due to the limited seating capacity, the following options for reporting will be available:

TV-Teams (mit eigenen Kameras) sowie Plätze für Fotografen angeboten.
TV reporting from the tent is possible only via a pool. House broadcaster for all TV teams is the Berlin studio of the ARD. For utilising the video and audio signal, please contact the Berlin ARD studio: Mr. Werner Melzer [werner.melzer@ard-hauptstadtstudio.de].
For photographers: A pool of six photographers will be set up in the tent. On Hannah-Arendt-Straße (with a view of the Field of Stelea in the direction of the Brandenburg Gate) there will be places for announcers of TV teams (with their own cameras) and for photographers after initial registration to take pictures.
Radio

Additional Space for Media in the Tent
Two hundred media representatives (print media and editors without technical equipment) can be seated in the tent. Due to the limited seating capacity in the tent, only one representative per medium can be allowed entry.
Media Centre
A media centre with direct access to the ceremony at the Memorial will be set up in the Representative Office of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein, located at: In den Ministergärten 8/10, 10117 Berlin, near to the Memorial site. The ceremony will be broadcasted live on monitors in the National Representative Office of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. There are a limited numbers of ISDN cables available. It is necessary to pre-register in order to make use of these cables (see below). The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) offers additional possibilities for foreign TV and radio teams in the National Representative Office of the Rhineland-Palatinate, located at: In den Ministergärten 6, 10117 Berlin. Only accredited media representatives are allowed to make use the media centre. Access is solely via the Memorial site.
Accreditation for the Opening Ceremony on 10 May 2005
Registration for accreditation should be completed solely via the attached form to be sent to the following fax number:

Period for registration:
4 April 2005, 8:00 a.m., to 15 April 2005, 12:00 a.m. noon local time
Later registration is not possible. If the number of registrations exceeds the space available, the time of receipt of registration will be crucial. Registration requires further accreditation. Successful accreditation will be confirmed separately (see information on the issue of accreditation).
In order to be accredited, a security check is necessary, for which personal data must be submitted.
For an application for accreditation (including security check), the following personal data are required:
Family name, first name – name at birth – date of birth – nationality/citizenship – ID or passport number – medium / function – address – telephone and fax – mobile phone – email-address

Please indicate what accreditation category you are applying for (media centre / additional accreditation tent / additional accreditation for announcer and photographer Hannah-Arendt-Straße). In addition, please indicate if you would like to make use of ISDN cables in the media centre.
TV teams are requested to inform us what technical equipment they will be bringing along for 10 May (esp. media vans), and whether they will require additional electricity.

Issuing of Accreditation
Accreditation will be issued from 2 May 2005 by the Press Office of the Federal Parliament (Pressestelle des Deutschen Bundestages). All those registered will be informed about their successful accreditation and the location and hours of the office for issuing accreditation via email.
We would like to point out that there will be no further press dates on the Memorial site or in the Information Centre in the period between 4 April and 10 May 2005.
