Uwe Neumärker, director of the Foundation, greeted the president’s wife and their children right at the edge of the Memorial on Ebert Straße and led the family through the Field of Stelae. The nearly 30-minute guided tour through the Memorial, designed by the American architect Peter Eisenman, was characterized by an intensive discussion.
The private visit of the Holocaust Memorial was for Michelle Obama and her family the beginning of a sightseeing tour through the German capital. Besides the Berlin Wall the Reichstag building was also part of the program.

The President of the United States of America Barack Obama came for a working visit to Berlin on Tuesday, 18 June, together with his family. After a meeting with the Federal President Joachim Gauck and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, he gave a speech at the Brandenburg Gate on Wednesday afternoon.
