New Film for the Memorial to the Homosexuals Persecuted under the National Socialist Regime

The proposals could be submitted until October 22nd, 2017. The international advisory council has selected the concept of media artist Yael Bartana on January 9th. The film is to be realized until the end of May 2018. The competition was financed by the Federal Government Commissioner of Culture and Media, Minister of State Prof. Monika Grütters.
The new film will be shown for the first time on June 3th, 2018 during a ceremony on behalf of the 10th »birthday« of the Memorial – attended by the Federal President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Background to the anniversary of the Memorial:
On 12 December 2003, the German Bundestag passed a resolution to establish a memorial to the homosexuals persecuted under National Socialism. The aims of the memorial are to pay tribute to the homosexuals persecuted and murdered under National Socialism, to preserve memory of this injustice and to serve as a lasting symbol against intolerance, hostility and the marginalisation of gays and lesbians. The Memorial to the Homosexuals Persecuted under the National Socialist Regime was inaugurated on 27 May 2008 in Berlin. The impetus for the memorial came from the initiative »Remember the Homosexual Victims of National Socialism« and the Lesbian and Gay Federation in Germany (LSVD). The Foundation is in charge of the Memorial to the Homosexuals Persecuted under the National Socialist Regime and is financed by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media.
