On Tuesday, 17 December 2002, at the headquarters of the Parlamentarische Gesellschaft (German Parliamentary Society), Bundestag President Wolfgang Thierse presented to the public the first volume in a series published by the Foundation for the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. The editor of the book »Auf dem Weg zur Realisierung. Das Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas und der Ort der Information. Architektur und historisches Konzept« (Stages towards Completion. The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe: Architecture and Historical Concept) is the Foundations executive director Professor Sibylle Quack. The book is published by Deutsche Verlagsanstalt (DVA).
This volume includes the papers presented by renowned experts at an international symposium, which the Foundation organised last year, on the theoretical and design concepts for the Memorial and Information Centre and the ensuing discussions. It documents the progress of the conceptual work carried out during the planning phase of the Memorial project.
With its new series, the Foundation is aiming to produce publications that are both academic and journalistic.
